Biofuels: creation of Etlas, a joint venture between Corteva and BP to produce SAF and renewable diesel

Producing oil from crops such as canola, mustard and sunflower for use in biofuels (SAFs and renewable diesel): this is the goal of Etlas, a joint venture created between Corteva and BP, Corteva announced on 07/01/2026.

" Etlas will leverage both Corteva's century-old expertise in seed technology to develop crops ideally suited for the production of SAF and Renewable Diesel, and BP's expertise in refining and marketing fuels for the commercial transportation market," said Corteva.

Ignacio Conti, Corteva's Director of Global Business Development, is Etlas' CEO; Gaurav Sonar, BP's Vice President of Novel Feedstocks, is Chairman of the Board.

" As the aviation industry seeks reliable, sustainable and competitive sources of sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs), it is clear that farmers have a vital role to play," said Ignacio Conti, CEO of Etlas.

Etlas is set to produce 1 Mt/year of feedstock by the mid-2030s, which could produce more than 800,000 tonnes of biofuel. Supply is expected to begin in 2027. The feedstock Etlas uses will be harvested from intermediate crops on existing croplands…
