Port of Rotterdam: ABB selected for the largest shore power systems project in the world

The Swiss electrification and automation company ABB has been selected for the engineering and construction of shore power systems in the Port of Rotterdam, announced the partners on 05/01/2026. With a total capacity exceeding 100 MvA, the berth electrification project is to date the largest in the world.

The contract is signed between ABB and Rotterdam Shore Power (RSP), a joint venture between the Port of Rotterdam and Eneco, a producer and supplier of natural gas, electricity and heat in the Netherlands.

Scheduled to begin in the second half of 2028, the solutions "will deliver power across three deep-sea container terminals" :
• APM Terminals Maasvlakte II (APMT) facility ;
• Hutchison Ports ECT Delta ;
• Hutchison Ports ECT Euromax terminals.

Thanks to 35 connection points, "ABB's shore power systems will be able to charge up to 32 container ships simultaneously during loading and unloading operations. The deal also includes a multi-year service agreement for each terminal. The contracts were booked in December 2025", partners said.
