"Among 80 European green fuels projects, less than 5% is dedicated primarily to shipping"(T&E)

Among 80 European green hydrogen and e-fuels projects, which could produce 3.6 Mtoe by 2032, "less than 5% is dedicated primarily to shipping" (158 300toe), according to the Shipping e-fuels Observatory 2025, released by Transport &Environment on 18/12/2025.

Out of the 80 projects :
• 29 are dedicated to e-methanol (one already operational in Denmark) ;
• 19 are dedicated to green ammonia (two already operational in Spain and Norway) ;
• 11 are dedicated to e-methane (two already operational in Finland and Germany) ;
• 23 are strictly dedicated to green hydrogen (one already operational in Denmark).

The Observatory stressed that "most green hydrogen and e-fuel production is concentrated in Spain, Denmark, Norway, and France. A significant share of these volumes is intended to supply at least partially the maritime sector - 100% in France, 63% in Spain, 53% in Norway, and 42% in Denmark. However, the picture changes when looking only at volumes primarily dedicated to shipping".
