CO2-neutral shipping: first green corridor between Europe and Africa to open between Tarifa and Tangier

From 2027 onwards, two fully electric ferries ships will connect Tarifa in Spain and Tangier in Morocco, thereby opening up the "first green corridor between Europe and Africa". In December 2024, the Spanish shipping company Baleària was awarded the contract by the Algeciras Bay Port Authority (APBA) to manage the Tarifa-Tangier Ville line for the next 15 years.

The two identical catamarans are fully electric, reach a maximum speed of up to 26 knots, and can accommodate 804 passengers and 225 vehicles.

These two ferries belonging to the Spanish shipping company Baleària will be boarding a total of eight emergency power generators from the Rolls-Royce's Power system division, announced the companies on 15/12/2025.
