"Certification is a key issue in the maritime sector. Every vessel is certified by a classification society such as Bureau Veritas, DNV, or Lloyd’s Register. If a vessel is certified by Bureau Veritas, the fuel cell must also be certified by the same body. We will therefore work with ABB Marine and Ports to identify a priority classification society that represents a significant share of our target market. This is a larger effort than in other markets we are addressing. We have completed an initial stage with Bureau Veritas through an Approval in Principle.", Hanane El Hamraoui, Managing Director of HDF Energy, told News Tank on 15/12/2025.

HDF Energy specialises in the development of large hydrogen infrastructures and high-power fuel cells for heavy maritime and rail mobility, as well as electricity production for public networks. It is today announcing a partnership with ABB Marine et Ports to co-develop a fuel cell designed to decarbonise the maritime sector.
