EC: Eight Member States, including France, summoned to transpose Renewable Energy Directive III

"The European Commission urges Greece, France, Italy, Cyprus, Hungary, Malta, Poland, and Portugal to transpose the reinforced rules to promote renewable energy in their national legislation", it declares in its December infringements decisions on 11/12/2025.

The eight Member States have failed to transpose the Directive (EU) 2023/2413, promoting the energy production from renewable sources, into their national legislation. "This directive aims to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy in all sectors of the economy, not only in the power sector, but also and especially in those sectors where progress is more difficult, like heating and cooling, buildings, transport, and industry, where the EU has also set new or strengthened targets", outlines the Commission.

The directive includes:

• The strengthening of guarantees of origin;
• The promotion of electrification and renewable hydrogen to facilitate energy system integration;
• Some safeguards to ensure a more sustainable bioenergy production.
