FR / Batteries: inauguration of Verkor's gigafactory in the port of Dunkirk (Nord)

Verkor announced the inauguration of its first lithium-ion battery cell gigafactory in Bourbourg, near Dunkirk (Nord), on 11/12/2025.

The facility, located in the “Grandes industries” zone of the Grand Port Maritime de Dunkerque, has an initial capacity of 16 GWh per year. Production will be dedicated to electric mobility. The commissioning of the site will create 1,200 direct jobs and 3,000 indirect jobs. Verkor targets a capacity of 50 GWh by 2030.

The first batteries produced at the site, intended for the Alpine A390 models, are expected to go on sale in 2026. Since 2020, Verkor has secured more than €3 Bn to build the Dunkirk site and develop its innovation centre in Grenoble. The project is supported by Renault Group, Macquarie Asset Management and Meridiam.
