EUDR: Council and Parliament agreement for a further one-year postponement, with new provisions

On 04/12/2025, the Council and Parliament reached a political agreement to postpone the entry into force of the European Deforestation Law by one more year, after the Commission alerted, in September 2025, of "an IT technical problem" preventing the launch of the platform on 30/12/2025. The vote of the Parliament will take place at the next Plenary session in Strasbourg, from 15 to 18/12/2025, to defer the EUDR until the 30/12/2026.

The EUDR aims to ensure that products sold on the European market, like cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soy, wood, rubber, and cattle products, are not sourced from deforested land. Companies are thus requested to make due diligence statements to national competent authorities. Adopted in 2023, the law had already been postponed by one year in October 2024 to allow companies sufficient time to comply with the regulation.

To amend the EUDR with a supplementary one-year postponement, the Commission had to submit its proposal to the Council and Parliament. Apart from the delay, the co-legislators decided to add new provisions to the proposal:
