SAF: " Road and air transport might come into competition after 2035" (V. Goff, TotalEnergies)

"Liquid fuels are the only technological option available today on a large scale, with CO2 reductions of up to 80% for SAFs compared with fossil fuels. But SAF requires large volumes of biomass, which raises long-term questions. "The energy roadmap is set for 2050 with EU Regulation 2023/2405 (ReFuelUE Aviation), in force since 01/01/2025 and requiring the use of sustainable fuels in civil aviation. Efficiency improvements, new propulsion techniques, carbon offsetting (or capture) and sustainable aviation fuel are the four levers of decarbonisation", said Valérie Goff.
