EIB/Crédit Agricole CIB : a €1Bn partnership 'to scale up financing for the EU wind sector' by 2027

To scale up financing for the EU wind sector : that's the main purpose of the strategic agreement signed by The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the French Bank Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank (CACIB) on 01/12/2025.

'The programme aims to add 32 GW of wind generation capacity, contributing to the 117 GW required for achieve the European Union’s target of producing at least 45% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.

This agreement is part of a €6.5Bn wind energy package unveiled by the European Commission in October 2023 (originally €5Bn, and increased in 2025). This package, managed by the EIB, is 'designed to accelerate the transition to green power'.

Under this initiative, "the EIB will provide a €500 M counter-guarantee, enabling Crédit Agricole CIB to build a portfolio of bank guarantees worth up to €1 Bn on behalf of its customers to support new wind farm investments across the EU.
