LNG: 10 Gt of greenhouse gases generated by 279 new projects by 2030 (NGOs)

279 new LNG projects planned worldwide will generate 10 Gt of greenhouse gases (GHG) by 2030, according to a survey conducted by environmental NGOs (Reclaim Finance, Andy Gheorgiu Consulting, BankTrack, CEED, Food and Water Watch, Friends of the Earth France, Market Forces, Rainforest Action Network, ReCommon, SFOC, StandEarth and Urgewald), published on 02/12/2025.

38 export projects are planned in the United States, representing 40% of the global increase in planned export capacity. In Russia, 18 projects are planned, and in Qatar 3 projects.

49 import projects are planned in China, representing 34% of the increase in planned import capacity. Vietnam has 14 projects and India 11.

The French energy company TotalEnergies detains 16.82 Mtpa of export capacity to date worldwide. The company is planning 18 projects representing 24.8 Mtpa. According to NGOs, TotalEnergies is expected to contribute to more than 300 Mt of GHG emissions by 2030.
