UK: The National Emergency Briefing, a first-of-its-kind initiative to alert on climate change impacts

On 27/11/2025, ten of the UK's leading climate experts delivered a briefing on the impact of climate change on the United Kingdom to an invite-only audience of around 1,250 politicians and leaders, including more than 140 MPs and peers, in the central hall of Westminster Abbey in London.

'This event is about resetting the national conversation, especially in the face of growing misinformation,' said Mike Berners-Lee, climate writer and chair of the National Emergency Briefing initiative, as he introduced the talks.

The ten scientists provided the audience with briefings on the foreseeable impacts of climate change on the UK's climate, economy, health and biodiversity, and called for immediate action. “We are asking for a level of leadership as if the survival of our society depends on it, because it does,” Mike Berners-Lee continued.
