India: second largest BESS project (280 MW/560 MWh) in Engie's history won in Gujarat

280 MW/560 MWh: this is the capacity of the battery energy storage project (BESS) won by Engie in India, the group announced on 24/11/2025. This is the group's second largest BESS project in the world.

The project was awarded in the national tender for 2 GW/4 GWh by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited, the state-owned electricity company in Gujarat. It will be able to store up to two hours of electricity production from 2027.

As at 30/06/2025, Engie's portfolio in India amounted to around 2 GW of renewable and storage capacity installed or under construction. The country is a "priority development zone" for Engie, which aims to increase its installed renewable and storage capacity to 7 GW by 2030. India has set a national target of 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030.

As at 30/06/2025, Engie detained 5.6 GW of BESS in operation or under construction. In total, the group aims to reach 95 GW of installed renewable and storage capacity by 2030.
