EU: Launch of design of three new IPCEI projects in biotechnologies by the JEF-IPCEI

The JEF-IPCEI (Joint European Forum for Important Projects of Common European Interest) endorsed the launch of the design phase for three new IPCEI candidates on biotechnologies , announced the European Commission on 25/11/2025. The JEF-IPCEI covers the entire lifecycle of the IPCEI process of four steps, as follows: identification, design, assessment, and, finally, implementation and evaluation.

An IPCEI is a large-scale, cross-border project jointly supported by several EU Member States, which aims to foster innovation through research, development, or first industrial deployment, and deliver major economic, social, or strategic benefits across the European Union. These criteria for eligibility were designed by the European Commission. Since 2018, twelve IPCEIs have been approved, designed and launched, in various fields: hydrogen, batteries, health.

The newly selected IPCEI candidates, originating from 15 Members States, all belong to the fields of innovation in biobased chemicals, biobased materials and biotechnologies for food and feed. These innovation fields will contribute to…
