FR: Alstom's IPCEI Hydrogen research projects paused after end of State funding

Alstom's activities linked to the European hydrogen IPCEI research programmes have been put on hold, after the company was informed that funding from the French State had been halted, News Tank learnt on 24/11/2025.

An IPCEI (Important Project of Common European Interest) is a project created and funded by the European Commission, bringing together several research programmes by companies from different EU Member States. Launched in 2022, the Hydrogen IPCEI comprises four programmes involving 99 companies in 16 EU Member States and Norway, with public funding of up to €18.9 Bn and the potential to mobilise more than €27.1 Bn in private investment.

Alstom has obtained funding from the European Commission under the IPCEI Hy2Tech (hydrogen innovation) projects to pursue the development of hydrogen fuel cells and hydrogen storage, as well as batteries and converters dedicated to heavy mobility applications.
