EIB/Commerzbank: a new cooperation to support €1.2Bn of energy investments in Germany under G4E

The EIB (European Investment Bank) and Commerzbank have launched a new cooperation to support €1.2Bn of energy investments in Germany, under the new G4E (Growth 4 Energy) initiative, announced the EIB on 21/11/2025. The announcement was made on the margins of the trade agreement meeting between Nicola Beer, EIB Vice President and Bettina Orlopp, Commerzbank Chief Executive Officer, and Nadia Calvino, EIB President, at Commerzbank headquarters in Frankfurt.

The aim of this partnership is to address Germany’s energy investment gap, as Germany's municipal energy providers, the companies and governments have not the ability to cover all the investment required to modernise electricity and district heating networks. In practice, the partnership will back energy investment schemes designed for projects with a total investment of less than €80M. The EIB will cover up to 50% of Commerzbank’s risk exposure to loans for eligible projects. Eligible energy projects include electricity generation, district heating and grid expansion at the municipal utility level.
