"With €15.5Bn, we are turbocharging Africa’s clean-energy transition" (Ursula von der Leyen)

€7Bn to support clean energy projects in 11 African countries under Team Europe Package: that is the amount of European investments announced by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission in Johannesburg (South Africa) on 21/11/2025. This announcement was made during the final pledging event of the "Scaling Up Renewables in Africa" campaign, in the margins of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, which took place from 22 to 23/11/2025.


Taking into account this €7Bn new investment round, the year-long campaign has secured €15.5Bn, including €15,1Bn from the European Union which committed itself, on behalf of Team Europe, to mobilise €10Bn. Team Europe brings together the EU, EU Member States, the EIB (European Investment Bank) and the EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development).
