DK / Offshore wind energy: launch of three new calls for tenders with CfD mechanisms included

The Danish Energy Agency is launching calls for tenders for three areas with a view to installing at least 2.8 GW of offshore wind power on 20/11/2025.

The three areas concerned are "North Sea Mid" (minimum 1 GW), "Hesselø" (minimum 800 MW) and "North Sea South" (minimum 1 GW). In total, the wind farms will be able to supply power equivalent to the consumption of around three million Danish and European households.

These calls for tenders follow from earlier calls for tenders covering six zones, for which no bids were submitted for the first three zones in 2024. The Danish authorities then held discussions with the industry to identify the reasons for the unsuccessful bids. The three new calls for tender take account of feedback from the industry and include a support mechanism via a CfD.

The payment ceiling for the State has been set at DKK 55.2 bn (€7.4 bn), broken down as follows: DKK 11.4 bn (€1.53 bn) for "North Sea Mid", DKK 27.4 bn (€3.67 bn) for "Hesselø", and DKK 16.4 bn (€2.2 bn) for "North Sea South", over 20 years.
