European Commission: 38 infringement procedures against 20 Member States, 15 regarding climate and energy

The European Commission took 38 legal actions - an infringement procedure - against 20 Member States that failed to comply with their obligations under EU law and closed 95 cases where the issues have been solved, announced the Commission on 21/11/2025. These decisions, covering ten various EU policy areas, including environment as well as energy and climate, aim to ensure the proper application of EU law.

The legal action taken by the EC includes letters of formal notice and additional letters of formal notice, reasoned opinions, and referrals to the CJEU (Court of Justice of the European Union).
