First-of-a-kind Clean Trade and Investment Partnership signed between the EU and South Africa

"EU and South Africa advance cooperation on clean trade and investment", announced Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, António Costa, President of the European Council, and Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa, on 20/11/2025 in Johannesburg. This announcement was made during the EU-South Africa Leaders’ Meeting, prior to the G20 Summit, which will take place in South Africa from 22 to 23/11/2025.

The EU and South Africa signed a Clean Trade and Investment Partnership (CTIP), along with a new MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) on minerals and metals value chains and, finally, new projects under Global Gateway. These initiatives aim to strengthen clean supply chains, support local strategic industries, and accelerate investments in green hydrogen and critical raw materials.
