"If governments were to implement three key climate actions they already negotiated and agreed on in 2023 -tripling renewables, doubling energy efficiency, and acting to reduce methane emissions by 2030- they could cut global emissions by 18 billion tonnes in 2035 compared to current emission projections. If continued, it would cut warming rate by a third in ten years and halve it by 2040", states a report from Climate Action Tracker published on 19/11/2025.

"However, they would need to start now and continue taking strong action well beyond 2035", outline the authors, comparing trajectories of degree Celsius change per decade until 2100 between different policies and action scenarios. "Our results show that if governments achieved what they promised at COP28 in Dubai by 2035, it would be a game-changer, quickly slowing the rate of warming in the next decade and lowering global warming this century from 2.6°C to about 1.7°C", explains Bill Hare, CEO and Senior Scientist at Climate Analytics, which contributes to this report.
