EU/ Pesticides: "More protection is needed, not less!" (PAN Europe's open letter to Jessika Roswall)

A letter to the European Commissioner for Environment, Jessika Roswall, has been sent by PAN (Pesticide Action Network) Europe on 18/11/2025, after the NGO viewed the DG Sante draft proposal for an Omnibus Regulation on Food and Feed Safety. In its letter, PAN Europe urges Jessika Roswall to block this proposal, in which the approval of renewals for all active substances would no longer be systematically assessed, in the name of administrative simplification.

"DG Sante is using the market access of more biocontrol alternatives as a Trojan horse to dismantle core elements of EU protection from pesticides. This proposal abandons science. It will considerably weaken the protection of citizens' health and the environment against toxic pesticide substances, while serving the interests of the pesticide industry", declared Martin Dermine, Executive Director at PAN Europe.

Furthermore, PAN Europe called for swift improvements on pesticides' regulations as following:
• Total phase out by 2030 of all pesticides listed as 'candidates for substitution', and all PFAS pesticide substances;
