EU: Recommendation of four substances, including melamine, to be placed in REACH Authorisation List

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) recommended four substances to be included in the REACH Authorisation List to protect health and environment on 18/11/2025: Barium diboron tetraoxide, Phosphorodithioate, Diphenyl phosphine oxide, and Melamine.

Their intrinsic properties, which, according to ECHA, could be viewed as Substances of Very High Concern are either: "toxic for reproduction"; "persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic"; or "of very high persistence, high mobility in water and toxicity".

"ECHA has selected these substances from the Candidate List of substances of very high concern for this recommendation because, following the agreed approach, they are of the highest priority", it says.
The Commission will then decide which substances are to be included in the list and the conditions that apply to each substance, including an eventual date to be placed on the EEA (European Economic Area) market if the authorisation is linked to a specific use.
