€2064 Bn invested in energy transition in 2024 (+19.3%), €694 Bn in renewable energies (Irena)

807 Bn (€694 Bn): that was the amount invested in renewable energies worldwide in 2024, according to Irena on 17/11/2025. This represents an increase of 7.3% in 2024 compared with 2023, compared with an increase of 32% in 2023 vs 2022.

The International Renewable Energy Agency is publishing its Global Overview of Financing the Energy Transition 2025, produced jointly with the ICC (International Climate Council), to coincide with COP 30, which is being held in Belém (Brazil) from 10 to 21/11/2025.

These investments represent around a third of global financing devoted to the energy transition ($2,400 Bn; €2,064 Bn; +19.3%).

96% of investment in renewable energies were directed towards the electricity sector. Investment in solar PV reached $554 Bn (€476 Bn), an increase of 49%.

Combined investment in renewable energies, electricity grids and battery storage ($1,190 Bn; €1,026 Bn) has overtaken investment in fossil fuels ($1,130 Bn; €974 Bn) in 2024, although fossil fuel spending is rising again.
