EU: "Food safety must be preserved in all our regions" (Christophe Hansen, Agriculture Commissioner)

Discussions on the post-2027 CAP and the various trade agreements, in particular with the Mercosur countries and Ukraine: these were the two main topics at the Agri Council meeting in Brussels on 17/11/2025.

The main announcements and conclusions, including the need to prioritise food safety when targeting aid to farmers, were presented by Jacob Jensen, Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries and Christophe Hansen, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food at a press conference on 17/11/2025.

"The ministers agreed on the need to prioritise food security when targeting aid. However, what this means in practice is interpreted very differently from one Member State to another, depending on the particularities of each. Some welcome the prioritisation of small farms in food security. The debates have shown that we need a degree of flexibility to find a solution that will work for all the Member States in Europe.
