EP/ ENVI and AGRI committees in favor of faster registration of biological control agents (report)

The ENVI and AGRI Committees adopted the report of Alexander Bernhuber (EPP) and Anna Strolenberg (Greens/EFA) by 97 votes for, 8 votes against, and 2 abstentions, to ensure the faster registration and uptake of biological control agents through a joint committee procedure. The vote in the Plenary session will take place on 26/11/2025 in Strasbourg.

The report aims to propose accelerating the authorisation process for biological plant protection products in the EU, establishing a legal definition of biological control solutions, creating an EU-wide framework, and enabling conditions, including sufficient funding and staff, to ensure biological products benefit from fast-track procedures to be put on the market.

The overall aim of this motion for a resolution is to make alternatives to pesticides available rapidly for farmers, in a context of increasing restrictions and interdictions of chemical substances used in crops. "Procedures must be simplified to avoid delays that would disadvantage EU innovators and farmers", highlights the ENVI and AGRI joint report.
