OMV / Masdar: Conclusion of a joint venture for an electrolyzer plant in Austria

The Austrian company OMV and the Emirati company Masdar have concluded a joint venture for the development and operation of a new electrolyser plant (the fifth largest in the world) in Bruck an der Leitha (Austria). The joint venture was concluded in Abu Dhabi, on the 07/11/2025; it will be majority-owned by OMV, with Masdar holding a 49% share.
This project will be one of Europe’s largest green hydrogen production facilities and marks a major step in OMV’s commitment to further decarbonizing its Schwechat refinery and accelerating the energy transformation: the Schwechat site, which already includes a 10 MW electrolyzer plant for green hydrogen, will procure the renewable electricity for production of the new site, with OMV owning the green hydrogen produced.

Construction of the facility began in September 2025 and it is expected to be operational in 2027.
