Seven countries committed to major cuts in methane emissions, responsible for one-third of global warming

The governments of Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Kazakhstan, Norway, and the UK signed on 07/11/2025 a declaration supporting market actions to drastically reduce methane emission in the global fossil fuel sector. The declaration also has the support of the European Commission, IEA (International Energy Agency), and OLADE (Latin America Energy Organisation), and has been saluted by environment and climate NGOs, such as CATF (Clean Air Task Force).

"Methane is responsible for roughly one-third of current warming and reducing it is the fastest and most effective way to slow temperature rise. Proven solutions are within reach, especially in the oil and gas sector where operational practices exist to drastically cut emissions by up to 75% by 2030, providing an opportunity to lower global temperatures by 0.1°C by 2050.
