COP30: "As Chair, my priority is to build the widest possible common ground" (Lídia Pereira, MEP/EPP)

Lídia Pereira is the Chair of the delegation of 15 MEPs who will attend the COP30 in Bélem (Brazil) from 17 to 21/11/2025. She answers News Tank questions on the role of the European Parliament in this global event and clarifies her position, as a member of the EPP, on EU climate and environmental policies.

"As Chair, my priority is to build the widest possible common ground before we land in Belém. We are running cross-party briefings, agreeing on a short set of shared "red lines", like keeping 1.5 °C alive, delivering real progress on climate finance and access, and accelerating implementation rather than creating new slogans. The Parliament’s delegation is the democratic pillar: we scrutinise the EU line, project the elected House’s position, build alliances with other parliaments, and keep civil society and business at the table", she explains.
