EC: opening of a public consultation on the Taxonomy simplification

The aim of the public consultation, opened on 05/11/2025 and running until 05/12/2025, is to gather feedback and insights from all stakeholders on the simplification of the two Delegated Acts defining the environmental and climate objectives of the EU Taxonomy.

As defined by the European Commission, the EU Taxonomy is a classification system that sets out criteria for economic activities aligned with the 2050 net-zero objective and other environmental goals beyond climate. The Taxonomy Regulation, which entered into force on 12/07/2020, establishes the framework for identifying environmentally sustainable activities through four overarching conditions. These were later detailed through two Delegated Acts specifying the technical screening criteria.

The Commission had planned to review the Taxonomy before its full implementation and is now consulting stakeholders to simplify it, as some criteria have proven difficult to apply, particularly those linked to the “do no significant harm” principle. The final versions of the two Delegated Acts are expected in March 2026.
