EC/STIP: "We send a signal to investors: we will support the aviation and waterborne sectors' transition"

At least €2.9Bn mobilised by 2027 to boost investment in renewable and low-carbon fuels for the aviation and waterborne sectors: that is the amount’s target of further European investments, announced by Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, and Raffaele Fitto, EVP for Cohesion and Reforms, in Brussels on 05/11/2025. They presented notably the STIP (Sustainable Transport Investment Plan) of the European Commission to boost investment in renewable and low-carbon fuels for the aviation and waterborne sectors.

“Sustainable fuels are essential across all modes of transport, including in road transport, despite ongoing electrification efforts. Aviation and maritime transport are much harder to electrify, making the rapid scale-up of sustainable fuels all the more critical. For these reasons, we are working to create more favourable market conditions for investment in fuel technologies, with a strong emphasis on mobilising private sector funding », declared Raffaele Fitto.
