Biological control: "MEPs will vote on a major step towards a pesticide-free Europe" (A. Strolenberg )

“Biological control solutions are a cornerstone for the transition towards more sustainable farming. They help us protect crops while safeguarding biodiversity, soil health, and water quality,” said Anna Strolenberg, MEP (Greens /EFA, Netherlands), on 04/11/2025.

Anna Strolenberg is the rapporteur, with Alexander Bernhuber (EPP/Austria), of the report for a faster registration and uptake of biological control agents in plant protection, which the AGRI and ENVI committees of the European Parliament will vote on 04/11/2025. The text aims to provide a specific framework to biological control agents, in order to reduce the environmental impact of agriculture, while moving towards a Europe without chemical pesticides.

"If we want to reduce dependency on chemical pesticides, farmers need accessible, safe, and effective alternatives. Biocontrol solutions can deliver that, if we give it the right framework to thrive », declared Anna Strolenberg.
