"From Canada to China, from Europe to Africa, nuclear programmes are expanding and becoming institutionalised. This global momentum marks a historic turning point: nuclear energy has become a key element of low-carbon transition strategies and a major lever for competitiveness and energy independence," stated the Société Française d'Energie Nucléaire (Sfen) in its annual 2025 monitoring report, "La relance de l'énergie nucléaire dans le monde", published on 27/10/2025.
The report reviews the main developments of 2025, with regional analyses covering Europe, France, China, the United States, Canada, Russia, India, Japan, Korea, and Africa. As of September 2025, there were 416 nuclear reactors in operation worldwide, 23 in temporary shutdown, and 63 under construction. Global capacity in 2024 stood at 377 GW.
