'The greatest potential of algae is in replacing fertilisers' (V. Doumeizel / Ocean Advisor to the UN)

'A few years ago, when we talked about protecting forests, nobody thought about marine forests, even though they produce as much oxygen and absorb more carbon than terrestrial forests. Yet they are burning at the same rate, so it is time to take a look at them', declares Vincent Doumeizel, Ocean Adviser to the United Nations (UN) Global Compact, on 23/10/2025.
Vincent Doumeizel is also the founder of the Global Seaweed Coalition and a writer, notably author of "The Seaweed Revolution'.

On 16 and 17/10/2025, Vincent Doumeizel was in Berlin for the 2^nd European Seaweed Summit. 'At this event, over 50 political representatives gave their views on the potential of algae. An EU Algae Declaration was launched, committing countries to try to work on the subject independently. All this is very positive. Of course, it is going to take time, but I see algae as a great source of hope for future generations', says Vincent Doumeizel.
