"Tackling emissions from Big Meat and Dairy must be one of the main components to limit global heating": this is the call launched by NGOs Foodrise, Friends of the Earth U.S., Greenpeace Nordic, and Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy in their common study called ‘Roasting the Planet: Big Meat and Dairy’s Big Emissions’, published on 20/10/2025.According to this study, "the global livestock sector is estimated to be responsible for between 12% and 19% of total human-caused greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which puts it as one of the world’s highest emitting sectors'.

‘The new data estimates show a small number of meat and dairy giants are responsible for a disproportionately large share of the emissions. 45 of the world’s major meat and dairy processing companies, including processors of beef (12), pork (15), chicken (15) and milk (15), emitted together around 1Bn t of GHG in 2023/22 (in CO2eq ). If they were a country, they would be the world’s ninth highest GHG-emitting nation. In fact, the companies’ combined emissions are estimated to be more than those reported for Saudi…
