EU / 2035 Ban of sales of diesel and petrol vehicles: French ministries committed to "Made in Europe"

"We would like the European regulation on CO2 emissions from new vehicles to serve automobile production in Europe first and foremost, and to introduce a real incentive for European preference in the automobile industry in order to boost investment and industrial facilities in France and on the continent, particularly in the electric vehicle", state the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industrial, Energy and Digital Sovereignty and the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Biodiversity and International Negotiations on Climate and Nature, which set out France's position on maintaining the ban on the sale of new combustion engine vehicles from 2035, on 23/10/2025.

The ministries emphasise France's commitment to "advancing the electrification of vehicles", while indicating that it will "defend flexibility in terms of technological neutrality provided that it is accompanied by very clear measures to encourage European preference in support of industrial jobs in Europe".

According to the ministries, the issue at stake concerns vehicle components, which will have to be "made in Europe"…
