EIB / Just Transition Fund: €200 M loan and €30 M grants to upgrade Czech Republic's railways

A €200 M loan by the EIB, enabling €30 M of grants from the EU’s Just Transition Mechanism : this is the total amount of funding brought by the Eu to the Czech Republic to upgrade the country's railways, announced the EIB on 23/10/2025.

Správa železnic, the Czech public railways infrastructures manager will repair and renew regional lines as well ones that are part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
The company will also purchase new maintenance vehicles and equipment, and the planned infrastructure improvements will extend to drainage systems and bridges, strengthening thus the rail network’s resilience to climate change.

The new EIB loan is part of a cooperation framework under which the EIB foresees up to €2.2 Bn in financing and technical assistance for Czech railway infrastructure between 2023 and 2027.
The Just Transition grants support schemes in the regions of Moravia-Silesia, Ústí nad Labem and Karlovy Vary. These three regions had been identified as eligible under the Just Transition Fund, as their economies are heavily based on coal mining and…
