Progress in SAF uptakes across the EU in 2024: "EU on track to meet 2030 objectives" (EASA's report)

The EU is on track to meet the overall mandatory 6% Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) blending target in 2030: that is the main conclusion of the first “ReFuelEU Aviation Annual Technical Report”, published by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on 22/10/2025.

"The EU is making steady progress in adopting sustainable aviation fuels, and the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation is already helping to increase SAF production and use across Member States. Our focus now is on supporting the industry and Member States to ensure a smooth and fair transition to cleaner aviation fuels', said Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, in Brussels, on 22/10/2025.

The report highlights an upwards trend in production capacities, which will make EU airlines ready to meet upcoming obligations under the Regulation. Indeed, the SAF production capacities in the EU in 2024 had increased, from 12 EU "SAF active" (defined as having at least one operational or announced SAF production facility) Member States identified for 2023, to 17 in 2024.
