"I agree that gas and electricity need to work hand in hand if we want the energy transition to succeed. Gas will still play a key role, as it gives us the flexibility we need during peaks in demand. We can’t take it out of heating systems entirely, but we should electrify everything that can reasonably be electrified," declared Catherine MacGregor, CEO of Engie, at a hearing before the French Senate's Economic Affairs Committee on 22/10/2025.
"What we need now is long-term visibility. A stable political framework is crucial. We need a clear direction and a defined role for each technology in the energy mix. We don’t need to quantify every single target: pragmatism matters more. Simplification is one area where we can really make progress," said Catherine MacGregor.
