BE: Former Prime Minister Alexander de Croo nominated Head of the United Nations Development Program

Alexander de Croo, who has been Prime Minister of Belgium from 2020 to 2025, has been selected as Head of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for a four-year mandate, by Antonio Guterres, United Nations general secretary, announced the institution on 21/10/2025. The United Nations General Assembly then confirmed this appointment on 17/11/2025.

The UNDP administrator is the third-highest position in the U.N. hierarchy after the secretary-general and deputy secretary-general. It is also the highest post outside the U.N. Secretariat and serves as vice chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group, which coordinates all U.N. agencies operating in the field.

Alexander de Croo, who had returned as a Belgian MP (Open VLD / liberals) and as the bourgmestre (mayor) of Brakel (Oriental Flanders), after he left his position to Bart de Wever, current Belgian Prime Minister, holds a Commercial Engineering Degree from Solvay Business School and a Master of Business Administration from Kellogg School of Management
