Call for a Strategic Dialogue for European aviation in the EU (Airlines for Europe)

On 14/10/2025, the Airlines for Europe (A4E) association asked the European Commission to launch a Strategic Dialogue for European aviation before 2026, in regard to its matters in European economy (4% of european GDP, according to A4E), as the European Commission has previously done with other key industrial sectors. This request followed a meeting between European airline CEOs in Paris on the same day, where Air-France-KLM, Lufthansa Group, IAG, EasyJet and Ryanair were represented.

‘The challenges ahead are immense, and our competitors are not subject to the same rules or costs. The EU and national governments must sober up to today’s geopolitical reality and its implications for the resilience of European aviation’, declared Airlines for Europe.

A4E highlights that European airlines are currently paying the price for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) through surcharges without transparency. They claim that the current Fit for 55 Package and SAF mandates are increasing the cost of flying through EU hubs and to EU destinations and leading to business leakage. Thus, A4E has called for…
