UK: launch of a Clean Energy Jobs Plans to create 400.000 extra jobs in the clean energy sector by 2030

400.000 extra jobs by 2030 in 31 priority occupations, with high demand for roles including plumbers, electricians and welders: these are the main figures of the first-of-its-kind national training and hiring plan announced on 19/10/2025 by Ed Milliband, the British Secretary of State for clean energy and net zero. The additional 400,000 jobs will double the total clean energy workforce in Great Britain to 860,000 people by 2030.


Recent green lights and final investment decisions, amounting to £50 Bn (€58 Bn) since July 2024, will support job creation in the UK, particularly in the north and east. The green light for Sizewell C is expected to generate 10,000 jobs at the peak of construction, while Rolls-Royce plans to create up to 3,000 jobs for its small modular reactor programme. Additionally, the commencement of the Acorn and Viking projects in Scotland and the north-east is anticipated to generate a combined total of 35,000 jobs, including 1,000 apprenticeships. This builds on the 4,000 jobs already set to be created in CCUS projects in the North West and Teesside.
