EC: Greenlight of a €63M State aid for an hydroponic tomato facility in Greece

The European Commission approved on 17/10/2025 a €63M Greek State aid for the development of a soil-free tomato facility, operated by the Greek company Wonderplant S.A, in the town of Ptolemaida on 17/10/2025. The construction of this Ultra-Clima (a specific, patented type of green-house) hydroponic plant aims to grow tomatoes year-round, while ensuring water and energy efficiency.
The aid, financed by the Just Transition Fund, will be paid in the form of a direct grant and will cover 50% of the total amount of the project investment costs. The investment will support the local and national economy by fostering a sustainable, resilient and competitive tomato sector. It will also create approximately 150 new jobs in the region.
