DE: acquisition of 100% of renewable trading firm FlexPower by Citadel

Citadel has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of power trading firm FlexPower, announced the two companies on 14/10/2025. The transaction is expected to close in Q4 2025, subject to customary closing conditions, and the deal terms have not disclosed. Citadel is a major alternative investment firm, active on the global energy markets since 2002, through its Citadel Commodities department.

Founded in 2022 and located in Hamburg (Germany), FlexPower specializes in trading and risk management solutions for renewable generators (Upgrid), flexibility providers such as battery operators (Flexgrid), and commercial and industrial offtakers (Downgrid). Accompanying Germany’s power market rapid increase in renewable energy in recent years, FlexPower has leveraged its expertise to help businesses navigate electricity price volatility. The company trades a portfolio of more than 1,700 MW across six European countries, amounting to over 11 terawatt-hours placed annually on short-term power markets.
