Solar PV: 1.5 GW project for Engie and Masdar in the United Arab Emirates

1.5 GW: that will be the capacity of the Khazna solar photovoltaic project in the United Arab Emirates, awarded to Engie and Masdar by EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company), UAE's public renewable energy company Masdar announced on 10/10/2025.

The project will be located near the Al Khazna district in the city of Abu Dhabi. The plant will count 3 million solar panels and will avoid the emission of 2.4 Mt of CO2 per year.

The contract was awarded following a call for tenders and a Purchase Power Agreement (PPA) has been signed between the entities. Engie and Masdar will design, finance, build and operate the site. The project is expected to reach financial close by the end of the fourth quarter of 2025.
