FR / GHG: +1.3% emissions from the farming sector in H1 2025 (yoy), -0.3% forecast for the year (Citepa)

GHG emissions from agriculture and forestry are estimated at 42.3 Mt CO2e for the first half of 2025, compared with 41.7 Mt CO2e for the same period in 2024, an increase of 1.3%, according to the Frehch association Citepa (Centre interprofessionnel technique d'études de la pollution atmosphérique) barometer published on 10/10/2025. Overall, GHG emissions in France are relatively stable, rising from 191 Mt CO2e in H1 2024 to 190 Mt CO2e in H1 2025.

The livestock sub-sector sees its emissions fall by 0.7 Mt CO2e, or -2.9%, "due to the reduction in the bovine cattle herd" in the first quarter of 2025 compared with the first quarter of 2024, while the crops sub-sector sees its emissions increase by 0.9 Mt CO2e, or +5.9%, "due to an average increase in the use of mineral nitrogen fertilisers over the last two years". Lastly, the energy sub-sector saw its emissions increase by 0.3 Mt CO2e, or 7%.
