FR / Heat: inauguration of an industrial waste recovery unit by Lesaffre and Engie Solutions

On 07/10/2025, Brice-Audren Riché, Managing Director of French agrifood operator Lesaffre, and Catherine MacGregor, Managing Director of Engie, inaugurated a waste heat recovery unit at Lesaffre's historic site in Marcq-en-Barœul (Nord), announced Lesaffre on 08/10/2025. Two heat pumps will reuse the heat generated by the yeast fermentation activity to cover 70% of the industrial company's needs. Each year, 30,000 tonnes of CO2 will be avoided and 150,000 m³ of water saved, according to the organisations' estimates.

Lesaffre is a company specialising in yeast, animal feed and fermentation.

"We recognise that our company must be a driving force for change, and that growth can only be profitable in the long term if it is sustainable. Decarbonising our historic site in Marcq-en-Baroeul is another significant step towards reducing our carbon footprint", says Brice-Audren Riché, Lesaffre's Managing Director.
