FR / SNCF Group's energy transition: two CPPAs signed with Octopus Energy and BayWa r.e.

Supplying SNCF Voyageurs with renewable electricity for its mobility solutions: this is the objective of the two 25-year Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs) signed by SNCF with Octopus Energy's production subsidiary and BayWa r.e., BayWa r.e. announced on 06/10/2025.

Two power plants, named Greenberry and Fontenet 3 and located in Châteauroux (Indre / Centre Val de Loire Region), will deliver more than 100 GWh per year of electricity. They were developed and built by BayWa r.e., then acquired via Octopus' Sky fund. As part of the CPPA, these plants will produce 2.5 TWh of renewable electricity - the energy equivalent of 15,500 Paris-Rennes TGV journeys per year.

"As one of France's biggest electricity consumers, we are aiming to cover 40-50% of our trains' electricity needs with renewable energies by 2030, including 20% via CPPAs," says Richard Fécamp, Director General of SNCF Energie.

SNCF Energie also announced on 02/10/2025 that it had signed four CPPAs with Neoen in July 2025, lasting between 20 and 25 years. Neoen will supply 137 GWh/year of electricity to SNCF Voyageurs…
