Simplifying the CAP and strengthening the position of farmers: results of MEPs votes

MEPs adopted the proposal to simplify the CAP and the discussion mandate to strengthen the position of farmers in the agri-food chain at the European Parliament plenary session in Strasbourg on 08/10/2025.

The text carried by rapporteur André Rodrigues (S&D, Portugal) was adopted with 492 votes in favour, 111 against and 39 abstentions. An inter-institutional negotiation was also approved by the majority of Parliament. Discussions with the Member States should begin on 09/10/2025.

"We are sending a clear message to almost nine million farmers in the EU that Europe has heard them. Enough of the bureaucratic maze they have to navigate; they will get simpler rules, less red tape, and more predictability. We need to reach an agreement that works on the ground, reduces disproportionate penalties and respects regional specificities, while ensuring the stability of European producers", declared André Rodrigues.
