DG GROW: Valère Moutarlier appointed Deputy DG ( Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs)

Valère Moutarlier was named as Deputy Director-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs’ Directorate General (DG GROW) by the European Commission on 07/10/2025. This appointment will take effect on 16/10/2025. From that date, he will be responsible for issues relating to 'European industry' and decarbonisation.

Valère Moutarlier, a French national, is currently serving as Principal Adviser at the Directorate-General for Taxation and the Customs Union (DG TAXUD).Prior to this, he was the Head of Cabinet to former Commissioner Thierry Breton, in charge of the Single Market, for almost four years between 2019 and 2024. Valère Moutarlier has worked for the Commission since 1993.

DG GROW is the department that works to unify the EU market for goods and services while strengthening its governance. One of its aims is to increase the digitalisation and decarbonisation of European industry, including SMEs, in line with the EU's green strategy.
